Pourquoi lit-on ?

Un témoignage de Maggie Kogut

 

Cet été, j’ai eu l’occasion d’assister à quelques ateliers Biblio-libres, notamment ceux qui ont eu lieu au PAS de la rue et dont le but était la création d’un balado ayant pour thème la littérature.

Pourquoi lit-on ? Qu’est-ce qui nous empêche de lire ? Qu’est-ce qu’on lit ? La lecture peut-elle être une opportunité de rencontre ? Ce sont les quatre questions qui animaient les discussions tout au long du programme.

Travaillant et étudiant dans un contexte académique, je passe mes journées à lire et à écrire, mais je suis entourée de gens qui, comme moi, sont constamment débordés de travaux. Drôlement, on n’a pas généralement le temps de discuter de la littérature entre nous. Pour ma part, je n’exprime presque jamais mon amour pour les livres. Ceux-ci rappelant le travail, lorsqu’on se rejoint pour prendre une petite pause, on préfère parler d’autre chose. Je les adore pourtant ! J’ai donc sauté sur l’occasion de parler de la lecture avec des gens qui se présentent pour faire de même.

À la finale, je n’ai pas souvent pris parole pendant les ateliers, pour diverses raisons. Je suis pas mal gênée, mon accent en français n’aidant pas, mais aussi parce que ce que les participant.es avaient à raconter était d’une telle ampleur et tellement riche que la discussion n’y manquait jamais.

 

C’était tellement une joie d’arriver tous les mercredis matin et entendre tant de belles histoires, des frustrations et des critiques sur la littérature, son rôle dans notre société. Je sortais de ces rencontres avec une abondance de nouvelles façons de concevoir la littérature et avec un esprit plus ouvert et nuancé par rapport aux rôles que la lecture peut jouer dans nos vies.

Pour moi, cette expérience a surtout remis en valeur l’importance d’être à l’écoute de toutes les voix. Passant une grande partie de mon temps dans un environnement où la compétition risque trop souvent de dominer, où qui porte la parole relève souvent d’un choix sélectif encombré de rapports de pouvoir, cela a fait du bien de passer du temps à entendre ceux et celles qui parlaient parce qu’ils et elles en avaient envie et le revendiquaient.

Les choses qu’on apprend ce faisant ! Les traumatismes qu’ont vécus certain.es au sein de nos systèmes scolaires d’hier et d’aujourd’hui ; la valeur qu'a prise la lecture dans la vie d’un monsieur qui s’en est servi pour aider son père à comprendre un livre que ce dernier avait reçu pour Noël ; la passion pour l’astrophysique qu’a cultivée Serge en lisant (à ce sujet voir « La lecture peut-elle être une opportunité de rencontre ? » de Tiphaine Barrailler) ; la manière dont un autre monsieur lit non seulement les mots, mais la musique et la nature aussi.

Se donner le temps, être à l’écoute de tout.es ceux et celles que nous croisons dans la vie de tous les jours est tellement important et enrichissant. Je suis reconnaissante à l’Exeko d’avoir conçu un espace permettant à ces histoires d’être partagées et de m’avoir laissée participer à ces échanges dynamiques.
