D'un oeil différent is an annual cultural event which gathers more than 130 artists with or without intellectual disability around a visual arts exhibit, including a vernissage and a closing ceremony. Furthermore, the program includes a forum about the role of artists with intellectual impairment, artistic workshops, a play and other artistic performances. The event arises from a partnership between five organizations working in culture and intellectual impairment: the Association de Montréal pour la Déficience Intellectuelle (AMDI), the Centres de Réadaptations en Déficience Intellectuelle (CRDI) Gabrielle-Major and Lisette-Dupras, Exeko and La Gang à Rambrou. The 6th edition took place from March 9 to 20, 2011, at the Écomusée de Fier Monde of Montreal, during the Semaine Québécoise de la Déficience Intellectuelle. D'un œil différent grows each year in Montreal's cultural life as a community event which fosters public dialogue on the role of intellectually impaired artists and builds bridges between artists of all backgrounds. Furthermore, it makes the public and the cultural community aware of their talent, potential and position in society. The 7th edition is getting ready for winter 2012. New additions will be made to ensure an even more inclusive, empowering and inspiring event.
