"Un été de Trickster  - My Summer with Tricksters"

C'est un jeudi soir, au Legion Hall de Kahnawake, que les 20 jeunes participants du Drama Summer Camp de Trickster@Kahnawake ont présenté leur spectacle devant leur communauté. Une centaine de personnes, des familles et amis des jeunes se sont déplacés pour voir l'aboutissement de 8 semaines d'ateliers mêlant des activités Trickster et culturelles Mohawk.

Nous étions quelques uns de l'équipe Exeko à aller voir les jeunes en spectacle. Plusieurs dans la salle étaient émus et on ressentait de l'émerveillement. de la fierté, de la joie, des rires et beaucoup d'enthousiasme!

Bravo aux jeunes pour leur beau spectacle! Un grand merci au Kahnawake Shakotiia'takehnhas Community Services d'avoir permis ce projet et à toute l'équipe du projet, Alessia, Jani, Kakaionstha Deer, Rain, Brooke, Terry, Terry Y. et Kyle pour leur dévouement!

"L’été que j’ai passé avec le KSCS Drama Camp / Trickster a été une expérience du tonnerre. Comme dans tous les camps d’été, il y a des hauts et des bas, les participants étaient parfois difficiles mais avec le temps tout ce monde est devenu comme ma famille. 

Je suis partie en voyage d’affaires au milieu et je me suis rendue compte que non seulement je manquais à mes collègues et aux participants, mais aussi que j'ai pu apporter mes connaissances sur le Traité 4 tout en en apprenant davantage sur ma propre culutre iroquoise. 

Au début je ne savais pas si nous allions faire un beau spectacle, j’étais confuse... Mais j’ai adoré le résultat. Le programme Trickster ouvre vraiment l’esprit créatif et l’imagination des participants, tout comme leur estime personnelle. J’aimerais remercier Terry McComber, Kyle Zachary, Brooke Deer, Jani et Alessia pour cette fantastique expérience, culturellement enrichissante."

The 20 Youth participants of the Drama Summer Camp Trickster@Kahnawake presented their show in front of their community at the Legion Hall of Kahnawake on a Thursday evening. Friends, families and community members we reunited to see the result of a 8 weeks project mixing cultural and Trickster workshops.

We were a few from the office to go to Kahnawake for the show. People in the audience were moved and we could feel wonder around. Pride, joy, laughs and a good deal of enthusiasm  : that’s what we found!

Congratulations to the youth for this beautiful show! Many thanks to Kahnawake Shakotiia'takehnhas Community Services for supporting this project; many thanks as well to those who made it happen : Alessia, Jani, Kakaionstha Deer, Rain, Brooke, Terry, Terry Y. And Kyle. 

Our dear Rain, Wahsontano:ron McGregor-Yuan, member of the team and summer student, wanted to share her experience. Here are her words :

" My summer with the KSCS Drama Camp/Trickster Program was a whirlwind experience. There were ups and downs as with every summer camp. The participants at times were difficult to work with but in time they became like a family to me.

I went on a business trip in the middle of the summer and not only did I find out how much all my co-workers and the participants missed me, but I also got to bring back some cultural teachings and knowledge from the native people in Treaty 4 territory as well as enhance my own knowledge of my Iroquois culture.

At first I didn’t know if we were going to perform a good show and I had no idea what was happening. Yet in the end I loved the result. The Trickster Program really opened up the participant’s creativity and imagination as well as their self-esteem. I would like to thank Terry McComber, Kyle Zachary, Brooke Deer, Jani and Alessia for this wonderful and culturally enriching experience."
